County residents save $2.5 million on prescriptions

February 27th, 2014

In five years, Herkimer County residents have saved more than $2.5 million using a free prescription drug discount program, according to a release from Vincent Bono, chairman of the Herkimer County Legislature.
The ProAct Prescription Discount Card program, which Herkimer County started in 2009, has saved money for residents on nearly 87,000 prescriptions, the release said. The program is free to taxpayers, the county and to those participating, and there can be 10 to 20 percent savings on brand medications, and 20 to 70 percent savings on generic medications. The card, however, cannot be used paired with any form of insurance, and cannot reduce co-pay or deductibles.
The service can be utilized at more than 60,000 of the county’s pharmacies. To find the closest location, visit NYRxDiscountCard.com or call 1-877-776-2285.
