Mangano’s ProAct Prescription Program Saves Residents More Than $1.5 Million

November 15th, 2013

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano’s prescription discount program was implemented in May 2012.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced on Friday that his ProAct program has helped residents fill more than 30,000 prescriptions and helped Nassau County residents collectively save more than $1.5 million.

The ProAct Prescription Discount Card Program was implemented in May of 2012, and was designed to provide those with little or no prescription coverage with affordable medication. All Nassau County residents are eligible to take part in the program.

“By working closely with ProAct, Nassau County has provided their residents, regardless of age, income or existing health care coverage, access to affordable prescriptions,” Mangano stated in a recent press release. “I encourage every resident, regardless of their health care coverage, to keep a card on-hand to ensure they will not have to pay the full cash price for a prescription.”

The discount card cannot be used with insurance in order to discount co-pays or deductibles. However, all brand name and generic prescriptions can be discounted using the card, including some pet medications.

On average, residents save about 10-20% on name brand medications and 20-70% on generic medications.

Residents do not need to pay an enrollment fee to participate in the program. It is completely free to all taxpaying residents of Nassau County. Once issued a card, residents only need to present it at their pharmacy to save on their medications.

For more information on the program and to see which pharmacies accept the card, visit www.NYRxDiscountCard.com or call 1-877-776-2285. Residents that have lost their card or need an additional card can also call, visit the website or go to the Department of Social Services, the Health Department, the County Office Building, or any pharmacy that is participating in the program.
